Protecting Consumer Privacy

For many years, there was no Kansas law prohibiting a bank or insurance company from selling customers' personal financial and health information. That meant that in this world of interconnected, high-speed information systems, your bank or insurance company could disclose your entire personal financial and health profile instantly with the stroke of a computer key.

The Kansas Legislature has adopted privacy rules that require insurance companies to get your consent before they sell your personal health information.
